Reading For Our Region

Get involved in this bookish campaign, celebrating reading, storytelling and creativity – all whilst helping to increase awareness of our cause and help make life better for local children and young people with cancer.

We’re calling on booklovers and storytellers to help us share our new campaign…

Reading For Our Region aims to raise awareness of childhood cancer, and the families it affects across the North East and Cumbria, through a common love of books and storytelling.

As part of the campaign, we’re collaborating with local libraries, book shops, authors, and literary events across the region to distribute free bookmarks within the bookish community. By sharing useful bookmarks rather than charity leaflets, we’re helping to provide a more environmentally friendly way to help spread awareness of Children’s Cancer North and our charity’s work to help make life better for children and young people with cancer across the North East and Cumbria.

Each bookmark features a stylish artwork of illustrations that are meaningful to our cause, with a QR code link through which people can check out the Reading For Our Region campaign and other ways that they can get involved with our charity or make a donation, should they wish.

So grab your latest page turner and head to your local participating venue to pick up a bookmark today! Check out our interactive map below to find your nearest stockist…

Would you like to support our campaign and be a stockist of our free charity bookmarks?

This is only the first chapter!

Our hope is that the region’s love of books and storytelling will shine through so that we can build an even bigger community of local authors, organisations and libraries who are passionate about sharing our campaign and its impact.

Let’s work together to raise awareness of children and young people in the North East and Cumbria affected by cancer and bring the joy of reading, storytelling and imagination to more people!

Our activities…

We recently had the pleasure of joining independent authors and bookish crafters at Newcastle’s first Literary Escape Festival where we handed out our free bookmarks and sold some mystery books which were kindly donated by members of the public to support the Reading For Our Region campaign.

Expert wrapper, Aoife Forbes of Forbes Finishings, also donated her time and expertise to wrap an incredible number of mystery books for this event as well as delivering a tutorial to our corporate volunteers so they could also get involved. Her wrapping skills are not limited to books, either! So check out her website to find out more about her expert wrapping services and the team building workshops she delivers.

Thanks to the incredible enthusiasm surrounding our mystery book sale, we are now looking for more books donations!

Are you looking to clear out some of your pre-loved books and would like to donate them to a good cause? We are now accepting more book donations from the public. Whether you have children’s books, adult fiction or informative non-fiction, we’d love to take them off your hands so that we can sell them at upcoming events. Donations will be sold at upcoming events with all proceeds going towards making life better for children and young people with cancer in the North East and Cumbria, as well as funding the revolutionary research being conducted at Newcastle University to develop more targeted and kinder cancer treatments for young patients both here in our region and worldwide.
