It’s the time of the year when people traditionally make New Year Resolutions with the intention of getting healthy, taking on a new challenge or making a positive change in their life.

This week we’re launching our #Resolution2017 campaign which challenges people in the North of England to commit to helping  us to raise funds for research into better treatments for childhood cancer in 2017. This can be taken on as an individual, as a family or as a business.

Getting people to sponsor you as you take on a New Years Resolution can make you much more likely to keep at it, and you’ll be helping a very worthwhile cause.

Sporting challenges have always been a big part of our fundraising, with more than 8,000 people taking on the Children’s Cancer Run for us each year. This run which takes place in May offers a five mile, three mile and a toddler dash and is a great target for anyone thinking about starting running in January.

If you are already a runner, you might want to take on the Great North Run for charity in September. North of England Children’s Cancer Research have had runners in the Great North Run every year since it started in 1981 and hundreds run for us each year.

With over 50,000 runners, this is a huge event and crowds line the streets from the iconic Tyne Bridge all the way to South Shields. Places in our Great North Run team are normally gone by the end of February, so act fast if you’d like to take on this challenge in 2017.

Have many other events taking place throughout the year, and our supporters surprise us every year with the challenges that they take part in, from running marathons to shaving heads, from skydiving to dancing. You can find fundraising tips here and an A-Z of fundraising ideas here.

As our charity approaches it’s 40th anniversary we can be proud that more children are beating cancer than ever before due to research which has taken place around the globe. Our funding has helped establish Newcastle as one of Europe’s leading research centres and the recently opened £8 million NECCR Labs at Newcastle University is leading the way with ground breaking research.

If you’d like to raise money for the NECCR in 2017, please let us know if we can be of any assistance. Our fundraising team have years of experience and are happy to offer advice, we can also offer practical support with collection tins, t-shirts, balloons etc.
