Janet Cairns is our Fundraising Manager. We hope you’ve enjoyed our #MeetTheTeam series so far. In Janet’s blog you can find out about her longstanding team leadership and donating her stem cells to a cancer patient.

Working for our charity for seven years

Hi, I’m Janet. I’m really proud to have been part of Children’s Cancer North for this last seven years, joining when we were known as North of England Children’s Cancer Research and Children’s Cancer Fund. I know how lucky I am to work for such a special charity with a history of making a real difference to families touched by childhood cancer.

Leading our team

I’ve spent all of my adult life working in the voluntary sector, for both local and national charities, delivering services or raising funds to support children and adults affected by ill health.

I lead the staff team here at Children’s Cancer North, helping to set our goals and ensuring we both deliver a great service and raise enough funds to achieve our vision. As we’re a small team I also get the chance to get hands on in all areas of our work, from meeting our fundraisers to helping deliver our events programme. My favourite part of the job is when we get to meet the inspirational children and families, whose lives have often been turned upside down by cancer, who choose to spend time and energy raising funds to make a difference.

Around five years ago I got the chance to donate my stem cells to someone being treated for cancer after I joined the stem cell donor register and was matched. Something I will always remember and feel honoured to have had the chance to do.

Meet Hopper, my Sprocker Spaniel

When I’m not working, I love to take my very full of energy Sprocker Spaniel, Hopper, for walks on the hills or at the beach.

It’s been great having the chance to introduce myself to you. If you want to get involved with our charity in any way you can email or if you would like to get in touch with me, you can email me direct at
