We’re cheering on Team Florence this weekend as they, alongside over 500 other incredible Children’s Cancer North runners, take on the challenging Great North Run events.

Running in support of one very inspiring young lady named Florence, who will be tackling the Junior Great North Run herself on Saturday 12th September, the team are collectively raising money for Children’s Cancer North to support children and young people with cancer in our region. Joined by her sister Bella and friends Charlotte and Faye, Florence will be running 4km down Newcastle Quayside while dad, Sebastian, is joined by Florence’s Aunty Zoe and family friends Danny and Emma who are completing the full 13.1 mile route as part of the Great North Run on Sunday 13th September.

Florence told us;

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Junior Great North Run on Saturday with my friends and sister, Bella. I feel a little bit nervous because it will be quite difficult, but I know I can do it and I will be proud of myself when I do. I also know that the atmosphere is going to be fantastic there!”

Abigail Hewison, Head of Charity at Children’s Cancer North, reflects on Florence’s story;

“It is so inspiring to see in a person so young, who has already faced so much more than others in her age group, the determination and resilience of taking on a challenge like the Junior Great North Run. We are so grateful to Florence, and her family and friends who are fundraising, along with our extensive team of Children’s Cancer North runners this weekend, to enable the charity to continue supporting children and young people with cancer across the North East and Cumbria.

“Thank you to Team Florence for taking on this challenge and we wish you all the best of luck for the weekend ahead!”

Sebastian added;

“During some of the most difficult times our family has faced, Children’s Cancer North have been there making a real and positive difference to our journey.

“We are incredibly proud to be raising money for Children’s Cancer North.”

The funds raised for Children’s Cancer North during the Great North Run weekend will help us to not only support families affected by childhood cancer, but also to fund revolutionary research taking place at Newcastle University to develop more targeted and kinder cancer treatments for young patients both here in the North East and globally.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to all of our runners, volunteers, donors and supporters, we couldn’t do what we do without you.
