Here at Children’s Cancer North, we are very excited to announce that Komatsu UK Ltd. have chosen to support us as their charity of the year. We are thrilled to start our new partnership and look forward to what the year ahead will bring.

Who are Komatsu?

Komatsu are a global organisation with numerous bases in Europe. Komatsu UK are located in County Durham where they manufacture crawler excavators and working gear excavators. Komatsu’s purpose is to, “Create value through manufacturing and technology innovation to empower a sustainable future where people, business, and our planet thrive together.” They hold strong values, and their roots stretch back more than 100 years. Originating from Japan, founder, Meitaro Takeuchi, was an entrepreneur with an extraordinary humanitarian vision, committed to enhancing the community’s quality of life, developing future generations and growing with society.

The start of our partnership…

Komatsu UK’s charity selection process involved taking charity nominations from their employees. The nominees were then voted for by their Sports & Social Committee and the announcement was made at the Komatsu UK Annual Gala Ball, which our trustees from Children’s Cancer North were honoured to be invited to.

We will work together with Komatsu UK to collaborate on ways to fundraise for our charity, looking to raise money to support our charity efforts in children’s cancer research and offering support to children with cancer and their families.

Our trustees, Paul Bain and Geoff Shenton enjoyed attending the Annual Gala Ball.

Paul said, “It was an honour to be invited to the Komatsu UK Annual Gala Ball to accept their charity adoption for the next year. We had a wonderful evening. We would like to thank you for your hospitality and choosing us as your adopted charity. Thank you to Paul Blanchard, Managing Director at Komatsu UK; Trevor Brown, Welder Fabricator and Representative of the Sports & Social Committee at Komatsu UK and your wider team.

“It was also great to meet Keith Armstrong from the previously adopted charity – The People’s Kitchen and to hear how much it meant to them to have Komatsu UK’s support. The People’s Kitchen were presented with a cheque for £10,600 which was fabulous to see.”
